Recipient of The Louisiana State Bar 2023 Century Club Award.

The LSBA provides pro bono and children advocacy awards to highlight the important and impactful work specific Attorneys have provided to individuals in need.

Wills for Heroes. The LSBA works with affiliate organizations to provide free estate planning documents to Veterans and First Responders, including police officers, firefighters, paramedics, and probation/parole officers and their spouses.  This event is scheduled between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on the following dates and locations:

January 26, 2024, at the  St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office – 22nd JDC, 701 N. Columbia Street, Covington, LA 

February 23, 2024, at the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office – Media Room, 300 Brownswitch Road, Slidell, LA.

“Ask a Lawyer Days.” October 24, 2019, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Causeway Branch of the St. Tammany Parish Library at 3457 Highway 190, Mandeville, LA 70471. Christie Tournet participated in the Southeast Louisiana Legal Services' Northshore Pro Bono Project wherein participants sat one-on-one with an attorney and got brief legal advice or direction at no charge.

Louisiana Heat Pump Association.  Christie Tournet presented to this group on Contractor Operations: Avoiding Common Pitfalls and facilitated a Q&A with the members after the presentation.

 

NOTABLE CASES:

Succession of Ernest Dopp, 2021-CA-0193 (La. App. 1 Cir., October 18, 2021).  The First Circuit upheld the decision of the Trial Court, 22nd Judicial District Court, that found in favor of the intestate heir, a child, that a purported, handwritten Will and Donation was invalid, where an ex-spouse purported to be a sole beneficiary of the Decedent's estate.  Christie Tournet successfully represented the Intestate heir, a child, at the trial and appellate levels.

Succession of Tiffany Arthur, No. 20-CA-75 (La. App. 5 Cir., May 27, 2020).  The Fifth Circuit upheld the decision of the Trial Court, 24th Judicial District Court, that found in favor of the Defendant, a Trustee, that the Trustee need not deliver funds to a Succession Representative, where a Testamentary Trust provided that a minor child's interest in the trust had not terminated, but, even if the interest in Trust had terminated, the Trustee was still directed to deposit such funds in a Minor's account.  Christie Tournet, as Co-Counsel with a colleague, successfully represented the Defendant-Trustee at the trial and appellate levels.
